Rats!

February 8, 2009

A week ago, I was hanging out on Enemanit when Paul texted me that we have rats. He said that a rat ran out from under our oven while Paul was pre-heating. I didn’t really accept it as truth.

But, this past Wednesday morning, I woke up at 6am to the sound of something crawling in my bed. I was frozen in fear. And then, I felt something “whisker-like” brush against my fingertips. I slowly withdrew my hands from above my head, backed away from my bed and ran to Paul. He came and we turned the light on to discover a cockroach crawling along my pillow. Pshhhh… cockroaches are no big deal when we’re considering rats!

After raiding the little shit, we began settling back into our own rooms for one more hour of sleep when I saw it… a big, fat, rat-tail whipping around out the top of our closet door. I woke Paul up and ran to get a baseball bat. As I am getting ready to take a swing, it turns and just stares at me. This rat looked just like a giant mouse – with beady little black eyes. And it just STARED at me, as if to say, “Oh. Why, hello!” I told Paul I couldn’t do it, “I mean, we’re reading The Mouse and The Motorcycle for crying out loud and he looks just like a big mouse!”

After the rat flew across Paul’s foot, he couldn’t do it either.

We spent the next 30 minutes with mops and brooms, moving ovens and refrigerators as the rat ran under them, trying to heard him out the front door. We finally succeeded, and I tossed two rat poison packets into the hole in the closet that we think our little visitor came from. Much to my dismay, the packets were gone by the afternoon.

So, we officially have a rat problem.
